How Brazil Is Growing In Farmers Markets

By Robert Sutter

To say that the popularity of farmers markets is growing would be an understatement. Most people would be able to agree with the litany of benefits that these crops have and they are some of the best that they can be brought into just about any diet you can imagine. How high is the demand in other areas of the world, though, you may wonder? After looking over a recent report, it's dawned on me that more areas are becoming better aware of the benefits that fresher, natural crops have.

In Brazil, farmers markets are slowly but surely seeing growth within Brazil. An article on Occupy talked about this, saying as how there has been a great demand for some of the freshest food items out there. In fact, Belo Horizonte - viewed as one of Brazil's biggest cities - showed a 10% increase in demand during the first half of this year. To say that authorities along the lines of Colle Farmers Market should focus on this is probably something that goes without saying for most.

I think most of this has to do with the idea of social media and how there has been far more information brought to the surface. In particular, Brazil's heavy usage of pesticides has been talked about and 11.2 pounds were used per person each year. This is tremendous, to say the least, especially when you considered that the article stated how this is twice as much as what's been utilized in the United States. It goes without saying that changes have to be made in this area.

How important is it to educate people as far as these particular fruit items are concerned? I believe that it is one of the most vital aspects to go about, especially when you think about how many fruits and vegetables have tremendous amounts of pesticides. Strawberries, for example, are especially difficult to rinse off seeing as how their textures possess those characteristic ridges. These bumps, as miniscule as they are, oftentimes make it difficult for cleaning to be done, which is a problem to say the least.

I feel as though more individuals should have organic vegetable markets seen in high abundance and I am sure that most would agree with me on the matter. In my eyes, these markets are some of the best and it is difficult for me to say otherwise. Hopefully more information is brought to the surface so that even more demand is seen for these markets. No matter which region of the world you are talking about, healthful crops of many types should be seen in high abundance.
