The Catholic Church is probably the biggest and the most influential institution that has ever existed in the entire world. Of course if one is a strong worshipper, then he will probably know about the major changes that the church underwent throughout the years which is known as the Catholic renewal. Now for those who are not familiar with this period of time, here is a brief overview of what it was all about.
Now there were actually three stages of change that the Vatican underwent in order for it to reach where it is now. Now the three stages included the translating of the Latin Bible into more widely used languages, the modification of liturgies, and of course the concept of faith. Now after these three changes were made, the church was able to adapt to the times to make things simpler for the followers.
Of course the first of these three changes was none other than the translation of the Bible. Now for many centuries, the Church has been using Vulgate which was actually the fourth century Latin translation of the Bible. Now since not everyone could read the Bible in Latin, the Vatican came up with versions of the Bible in contemporary languages for everyone to understand.
This stage started when Pope Pius XII ordered the church to do so. The church used the original texts of the Bible in order to make a translated version of it without the text losing its essence. It was for this reason that a lot of work was done on their old versions so that the new version could be fully understood and would also has the same meaning as the old versions.
Now the second change that the Vatican implemented was the change in liturgical services. Now a liturgy in a nutshell, is the term used for services that worshippers would attend in order to praise God and learn more about the Word of God. Now during this time, the Second Council made the liturgies a little less formal than before and called it a Mass instead of a liturgy.
Now this change began when the Second Vatican Council was established. The one who established this Vatican Council was none other than Pope John XXII and was actually ended by another famous Pope named Pope Paul VI. Of course this was the time that major changes were made in the rituals that the worshippers were taking part in so that people can worship better.
Now the very last one is the third one and is still going on until today. Now if one would remember that during the older times, the church would be very strict with their formal practices. Of course nowadays, they now have a more personal definition of faith.
Now as one can see, the Vatican really made a lot of changes in their practices so that it would really fit into the modern times. Of course the church is still trying to make itself better for the worshippers and also the people who would want to follow the Word of God. It is for this reason that the renewal had to be done so that the Church could also adapt along with times.
