Data On What Makes A Good Supervisor

By Marci Nielsen

Supervising other individuals does not need intelligence all the time. You have to harness that people orientation within you. Touch the lives of these individuals and their grateful attitude will drag them to wake up early everyday. Be good and you shall have no personal conflict as long as you are the one in charge.

Be approachable even when you are having a hard day. What makes a good supervisor is what is inside you. If you do not have it within you to help these people out, it will show in your actions and you will be creating a wall between you and the group who is considered as the backbone of your company.

You must be the leading example to all the people who are under you. Observe punctuality for them to have a sense of shame when they burst through the door. Also, do this for yourself. Come home early and find a way how you can remove all the stress in your body. Take care of your health before anything else.

Implement an incentive system that will include free food and some money. Base the prize on their individual output. You can even post the names of the winner and how the others have managed compared to that person. This can keep the competitive spirit in your workplace and make things better.

Try not to be afraid to discipline your workers no matter how close you are to them. This is the time when they have to see that you are still their boss. So, give a verbal warning, a written document on the third offense and suspension on the fifth. Do this gradually for you to promote fairness and for the group to take this seriously.

You should be patient in being a teacher. Remember that you are dealing with young people who do not have experience in the real world yet. Thus, show them how their tasks should be done and how they can speed up their work with the use of relaxing music or anything that they fancy and that makes them creative.

Treat your people in the way that they should be. Let them use all of their leaves for the day for them to have the time to relax and perform. Do not take them from the life that they are used to or you can eventually lose them as an employee. Just give everybody a slack on an occasional basis.

Be more understanding with those who seem to have an attitude problem. It is not their fault that they have been brought up in that way. Just be calm around them and do not add more fuel to the fire in case of an argument. Be the more mature and sensible one.

Be the best communicator. On top of that, encourage other people to speak. Let it be their ideas for the campaign or their personal feelings. Let them realize that you have an open mind and that you will consider everything they say. Value their opinion and your work will get easier in the future.
