Things You Need To Know About Vietnam Vets Donations

By William Fox

Vietnam veterans are those soldiers who were in the United States armed forces and its allies during the Vietnam war. It includes those who served during this time whether they were stationed in that country or not. The United States and its allies lost this war and suffered heavy casualties from the battles that happened.

This is the reason that many veterans are now suffering from disabilities and can not make ends meet after their service has ended. Some even are experiencing post traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD making readjusting to society harder to do. This is why Vietnam vets donation are important for them to receive.

Almost fifty thousand veterans does not have any place they can call home and sleeps either on the street or in common houses dedicated to them. This is because they do not have a family of their own anymore or are estranged with theirs. Some reasons of them being estranged is because of their problems to readjust to society.

One of these problems is having post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD which one in five vets are suffering from. This is a mental disorder caused by a traumatic event such as the war they have experienced. The symptoms include a person having disturbing thoughts, feelings or dreams related to the traumatic event.

One other reason is the disability they have gotten from their time in the service of the armed forces that is making living difficult for them. The common disabilities among them is having dismembered limb or limbs requiring them to use wheelchairs or prosthetic in moving around. This is the reason vet centers were established to assist them.

Services are provided by the government including benefits for them like cash compensation when they are eligible for it. One of the eligibility factors is if their mental or physical injuries were received during their time serving the war. Although these benefits are lacking specially to the ones that are lacking in eligibility that is why it is needed to have donations.

Donations can come in any form either by kind or financial to organizations who are meant to help them. These donations are not only meant for the veteran but also to their family members and anyone who are living with them. Example of these are clothing, household items, toys, electronic devices, books and small furniture.

Events are being organized also to raised funds in helping organizations provide services that they badly need. These include funding for medical treatment needed for their injuries as well as buying medical devices or equipment like wheelchairs and prosthetic. These events are a way also for them to see and reunite with their former compatriots to be updated about each other.

So it is important for people to reach out a helping hand to those who had suffered the effects of wars specially the ones who have no one with them anymore. Donating is only a part of this and there are other ways you can assist them. The government must also do their part to provide benefits to those who really need them.
