Dialectical behaviour therapy has proved to be effective over the last couple of years. It has been developed very successfully from was once a specialized program for only the borderline patient. Now DBT New York therapists deal with many people who have eating disorders, addictions and those folk who have suicidal thought patterns.

It is similar to cognitive behaviour therapy, but it is more specialized. There is a program that patients have to go through which involves a couple of steps. It is more intense and it can cause patients to become vulnerable and to face up to what they are going through in life. This is obviously challenging, but rewarding at the same time. Patients will work towards certain goals in their lives. When they are working with other group members, they will also take advantage of this approach. They will identify their problems with those that are suffering in the same way. They will learn about certain techniques and methods together.

It will cause them to become defensive and their emotions will be running high. A person like this will often get into conflicts and crisis situations which need to be dealt with.
