Before Trying Any Of The 101 Ways To Use Tea Tree Oil, Remember These Things

By Stephanie Price

Just because essential oils come straight from nature doesn't mean they can be used without caution. The truth is a lot of them can cause side effects and risks most especially if employed in the wrong manner. Below you will come across some of the things you should keep in mind before you try the 101 ways to use tea tree oil.

Never administer it by mouth. It is one of the various essential oils that are not suitable for oral intake. No, it's not from the same plant that produces various forms of teas despite of its very familiar name. According to scientists, the product can cause poisoning in humans. Coma, unsteadiness, confusion and rash development are just a few of the things that could happen if you ingest it. By the way, it's also not suited for oral administration in pets.

Remember to have it diluted first. Because it's so potent, weakening it with your choice of carrier oil has to be done before application. There are different dilution recommendations for different purposes. As a general rule of thumb, you should add only 1 to 2 drops of it to a teaspoon of your preferred carrier oil, be it coconut oil, almond oil or olive oil.

Do a skin patch test in order to be sure. About 24 hours prior to its application, figure out if you will develop any unwanted reaction. A little diluted tea tree oil should be dabbed behind your ear or on the inside part of your elbow. Allow the day to pass. If you see some redness or pimple like growths or experience itchiness, it only means that you're allergic to it. Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. It goes without saying that you should never apply it anywhere.

See to it that it's not expired. Before you dilute and apply it, check the expiry date on the container. Something that is past the expiration date can trigger allergic reactions. When properly stored, it can actually last for 2 years. You should also refrain from using it if it's oxidized, which means that it has already come into contact with the elements for a while.

Avoid using it on a teenage boy. According to experts, the product is not intended for young boys. It's for the fact that it can cause significant hormonal disruption in their bodies. A problem that may be encountered is what's called gynecomastia, a medical condition that is characterized by the formation of breasts among males.

Inform your doctor about your plan on using it. Generally speaking, it's something safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Because not everyone is the same, it is definitely a good idea to ask your doctor if it's okay for you to use it topically. Do the same if you have a known medical condition to ensure that no complication will strike.

It's a fact that tea tree oil is one of those essential oils revered for their potency. Using it in the correct manner is paramount. Unnecessary problems can be dodged if you keep in mind the things discussed above.
