Spiritual and religious beings often share a number of differences. While this is the case, there are some religious organizations which use the term spiritual such as The Spirituality Network, a group based out of Columbus, Ohio. Whereas, most individuals declaring to be spiritual though not religious rarely subscribe to a particular faith.
The organization recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the network. In doing so, the group reconfirmed the commitment to awaken lives whom can transform the world, ground in the source of all creation and promote the contemplative life through community action and activities. As such, the message of acceptance and inclusion is not taken lightly by the organization or those involved in these and other ministries.
In believing in unconditional love and a God who accepts and includes all in the Kingdom, members are often drawn to circumstances and human relationships in which one can be of service. Whereas, by living a healthy lifestyle, maintaining an ongoing relationship with the Creator others will be prone to accept such assistance and service.
Some of the resources provided by the organization include a Wellstream Program, referrals for individuals and groups, planning spiritual retreats while offering other programs which help promote a deeper and more spiritual life. In addition, the organization provides services to other community groups such as local food banks and providing shelter on an as needed basis.
While most religious organizations cater to people of the same faith, the network provides these services to individuals with or without a specific religious affiliation. For, the network is a nonprofit 501 (c)3 organization. As such, all donations to the group are tax deductible while the group does not profit through these programs or other activities.
The Spiritual Network also provides annual awards related to Living Faith which recognize individuals whom exemplify faith through action and service. Recipients are often individuals whom live in ways that inspire and challenge others in need. Information on these awards and other activities can be found in a monthly newsletter and calendar produced by the organization.
Other awards are also distributed at the Living Faith Awards ceremony which is held once a year. These include the Alvin R. Haley Social Justice Award, the Interfaith/Multicultural Award and the Hope For Tomorrow Award. Each of these awards are presented to individuals in each category and community. Most often, those receiving these awards have been involved with the Spiritual Network in one context or another.
Each year, there is a call for nominations. In order for a person to be nominated, the individual must promote peacemaking in all areas of life, visit the imprisoned and sick, give shelter to the homeless and feed the hungry, caring for the earth and all creation, loving neighbors as oneself and bring local communities together for the common good.
