Five Tips To Help You Motivate Yourself To Study

By Lachlan Haynes

If you want to get good grades you need to learn how to motivate yourself to study. Why? Well, study isn't always the most interesting thing going on in your life and as such it can sometimes be very hard to find the motivation needed to study.

But instead of boring you with reasons why motivation to study is something that can easily be achieved, we've asked students just like you to give us some tips on what helps them find the motivation to study. So without further ado, here are five tips sure to help you find the willpower to start studying!

Tip One. Listen to what you are saying to yourself. The thoughts you have each day create your reality and form your perspective on life. If you keep telling yourself that you're "not motivated" then you won't feel motivated! Pretty simple really! So start creating positive thoughts in place of any negative ones you have. If you find yourself thinking "I will never get this done" then replace it with "I will get this done, I always get my work done" (and so on). Soon you will be thinking yourself to success!

Tip Two. Visualize all your successes. Imagine you have achieved everything you want to achieve? You have finished school. There is no more study. You are living the life of your dreams. How good does it feel? Well guess what? The first step to achieving your dream life is to get your homework done. That's a fact. So visualize your success and then do what it takes to make it happen.

Tip Three. Take small steps consistently. The demotivating part of most tasks is that they seem so huge and hard that it seems pointless even getting started. But that's the trap you must avoid. If you have to write a 1000 word essay, then start by writing just 50 words. That's only one paragraph. You don't have to write it all in one go you know! Break it down into parts. Your worry will only disappear when you take some action. So take some small regular action and remember that repetition is your friend.

Tip Four. Surround yourself with study buddies. If you can find others who are experiencing similar things to you there is no doubt it will help calm you down and see that you are not alone. But the best part is that study buddies will give you their own words of wisdom and tips about how to get the work done (not to mention hold you accountable for getting it done!) It is highly motivating when you team up with others and make a commitment to getting the task done.

Tip Five. Always remember that you're much closer to the end than the start. One of the greatest challenges is to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is easy to get bogged down in mountains of work and think "I can't do this!" But the reality is that you have come this far and you are certainly capable of going all the way to the end. You must realize that life is not about study and that your study days will certainly end. Each time you complete a task you are closer to the end than before. Every time the bell rings and a day is done you are closer than before. You are always getting closer. Every minute brings you closer. Believe you will get there - because you will.

When you don't know how to motivate yourself to study it's time to take some action. Do something. Do anything. But don't just sit there wasting time! Use the five tips students have shared with us to make it happen for you. Good luck!
