Reasons To Apply Epoxy Floor Coating

By Dominique Martin

Epoxy is a strong adhesive material that is used for sticking other materials together in a surface. It is a cured end products from epoxy resins which is also a term taken from the epoxide functional group. Epoxy Resins are basically polymers or reactive polymers known as polyepoxides. Two resins are needed to be mixed in order for it to be used.

There are various utilizations for this material. Most commonly it is used for coatins on metal, parts for electrical machines or devices as well as their insulators and plastic materials, and also for structural adhesives. Although inside houses, this Ohio epoxy floor coating is used for garage floors. This is to prevent any wearing out and damages.

One of the first reasons why a lot of industrial companies and garage owners use this for their flooring is because of it being seamless and easier to clean off dirt, dust, or any other debris. They can be wiped off easily which is the reason why food, pharmaceutical, packaging, and bottling factories utilize this. It makes maintenance of cleanliness faster and more convenient.

Because of the luster of the floor and its surface, it gives an aesthetic feel and look which makes the atmosphere of the room more vibrant. Although it entirely depends on the owner how they wish to design the material, but it conveniently has different colors that can be made into patterns or combinations, or even logos. The material is attractive and highly durable.

Due to its chemical resistant behaviour, a lot of owners are using this for that reason. Manufacturing companies, along with warehouses and also industrial plants, would use this to prevent damage and wearing of the floors, since there might be additional incidents from the damages in cases of breakage and chipping of the surfaces. The hazard materials may be easily removed and cleaned off from the surface which resists slip, impact, fire, and heat.

Due to the design being flexible, it can be used as signages for warehouses in order to maintain organization and manage traffic. This can be used as a better alternative to paint which does not easily be worn out and is more effective against friction or abrasion. These signages are mostly for designating work zones, safety zones, and traffic movements.

Because of it being durable and highly resistant to wear and tear, investing on the material can produce savings from other expenses meant for maintenance and use of the mentioned utilizations. This is also environmentally friendly, which gives an advantage to the establishment due to eco friendly campaigns being promoted for all manufacturing companies that are dealing with harsh materials and chemicals.

There a lot of causes why the installation would fail or end up having some minor malfunctions. This can either be caused because of bad primer or poor floor preparation. So it is very necessary to have the floor shot blasted first or grinded before applying the epoxy mix. It is also best to make sure that it is clean, dust free, and dry.

Other reasons would include, weak substrate, no or wrong primer, incompatible surface like applying certain epoxy resins on wood that is likely to expand, floors that are contaminated, and faulty or improper mixture of resins. There could still be various reasons why the installation might not work, but these are mostly the common ones. Make sure to follow correct procedures in order to get that shiny and functional floor.
