How To Cope With Trauma Therapy Mill Valley

By Frank Stevens

Any type of trauma can be disconcerting. It can relate to something temporary, such as a bad car accident which you can't get out of your mind. Some people take a long time to get over losing a lost one. There are soldiers that come back from war and suffer from Post Traumatic stress as well as those that have been abused. This is more serious and trauma therapy Mill Valley is something that needs to be looked into.

There may be other disorders that you will have to look at, such as depression, anxiety, insomnia and panic attacks. The client will often have Post Traumatic stress syndrome. This often happens to a soldier after he has come back from the battlefield. He would have experienced a lot of horrific scenes that can leave him traumatized. It can leave him numb and shell shocked.

Some people may have been blocking these memories out since they were abused as a child. However, a lot of folks start to remember certain events when they are triggered in one way or another. They may have flashbacks. It is similar to when a soldier comes back from the war and hears a loud noise, thinking it is a gunshot. This causes more anxiety, and possibly panic attacks.

Someone like this can go downhill very quickly when they don't deal with the situation. It is important to have a look at various aspects, such as what triggers you. However, first and foremost you need to have a look at the underlying feelings. This can relate to an abusive situation and what caused it. It can take a long process, and it is important to work with the therapist during this time.

There are therapists who specialize in trauma. They are experienced enough to know what the individual is going through. It can be a great sense of relief to the client when someone understands them like this. They will benefit by their compassion and kindness during the sessions. However, trust can often become a problem and this can take time.

Other people will have a lot more to deal with because they would have been exposed to trauma more than just once. This is something that they would have become used to over their childhood years or during the recent couple of years. It can relate to domestic abuse and women battering. Children may have blocked these painful memories out. However, repressed memories come back to haunt you.

Children can also be helped in this way. Kids who have been severely abused and are unable to cope or talk to anyone, may benefit with pet therapy. Pets are often trained by therapists, especially for those therapists who specialize in trauma. Children really connect with a dog. Sometimes, a child is not able to talk to anyone else, but there is a special way that they are able to bond with another animal.

Play therapists can also be helpful where children are concerned. A child will be able to enjoy these sessions a lot more because this is what comes more naturally to them. They enjoy playing with toys. They are able to play with whatever they prefer to. The therapist can analyze more about what they are feeling by observing the emotions which are displayed during this time.
