Most parents dread having teenagers in the house. This is because teenagers are children who want to behave like adults. They want to make their own decisions, and do not want to be corrected. Sadly, many teens make things that make them live to regret for the rest of their lives. For instance, when teens start using beer and drugs, it becomes hard to live without these substances. The class will also explore some of the things that make most teens find themselves prey to addiction. For instance, one of the most cited area is peer pressure. The fact is that many teens cannot explain how they got into addiction. They just admired their friends who were using these substances and with time, they started using them as well.

Some teens also use these beer and drugs so as to feel and look like grownups. Adolescents always want people to treat them like mature people. This is why you will hear them always say that they are no longer kids. They therefore look for things that will not only feel like grown up, but will also make them look like so. However, this is simply an illusion. They do not realize how venerable they are when indulging in bad habits.

Also, some teens use substances so as to be like their parents. Teenagers who are brought up by parents who abuse drugs and alcohol are likely to follow suit. This is because this is why know and learnt. Again, if their parents are using these products, teens also can easily get access to them. Remember that kids mimic the behavior of their parents both bad and good.

It is alright for teens to be curious about some things. However, it is imperative for teens to know those things that are good to try and those that they should never try. In most cases, teens do not have lot of activities to do at home when their parents go for work. They have ample time to explore new things including beer and drugs.

It is important to appreciate that some teenagers have undergone some situations that are both stressing and emotional. Emotional pain can be very disturbing and every teen would like to avoid it. One way of temporally forgetting about the pain is through substance use.

The fact is that parents also need to check at their parenting. While it is alright to instill discipline in teens, it is not good to be very harsh. It is also wise to listen to kids as well and know their mind. Parents who are harsh risk bringing up rebellious children who are ready to do anything to prove a point.

The fact is that if trained, most teens can be able to escape some of these things that trigger them into using drugs and substances. This is why parents should advocate training early enough. After all, a stitch in time saves nine.
