The Boons Of A Strategic Planning Workshop Facilitation

By Jessica Cole

All organization have some sort of objective, or else their activities and operations will be good for naught. These objectives are not usually adhered to. Indeed some companies go off the tangent or meander to another channel from time to time. This no doubt takes up considerable strength and valuable time. To preclude those things from happening again, organization usually take part in strategic planning workshop facilitation.

When a company or organization is losing sight of its goals, they usually arrange a meeting of sorts, which is very much synonymous to a workshop. In this regard, facilitation will work to ensure that the steps taken are effective and easily achievable. When orchestrated properly, all plans and aims will undoubtedly be a cinch.

Planning in an organization, or virtually every group with an objective, involves the refocusing of its targets. The constituents will have to reevaluate whether their plans are feasible and viable. Following that they would have to look at their so called SWOT. That is, their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Their strengths establish their strong points as an organization, that which gives them leverage when compared to their competitors. Weaknesses are just the opposite, in that they are what drags the org down, and inhibits or keeps it from achieving its objectives. The threats are external entities or circumstances that can potentially bridle or forbid the achievement of these goals.

Strategic plans are not merely created. They are also committed to by those who had implemented them. These are carried out and resolved proactively, by taking all involvements into consideration. Able strategic plans are instrumental, if not definitive, in making strategic decisions.

There are also all the standard statements of a company. Foremost in this is the vision and the mission. The former underscores the companys trajectory ever since it started, and that which gives an inkling of what end it has in mind. The mission outlines the purpose of a company, establishing why it exists and also who it serves.

And then there are the core competencies to reiterate. Organizations are just like individuals, which is pretty much intuitive, since theyre made up of such. Anyhow, all have strengths or competitive advantages. Using them ably is yet on another plane. There are also the organizations guiding principles and values. These give a sneak peek into the companys culture, and outlines how things and some such are done around it.

Facilitation is needed for basic reasons. Firstly, it makes things smoother and easier. The objectives of a meeting are already pretty much directed and zeroed in on a particular agenda. Moreover, the facilitator would also be able to contrive some sort of connection within the group, ensuring a continuous flow of information and much needed communication.

They are also well and specifically trained to deal with people. This can be especially be contributive if conflict resolution is a must. Facilitators make sure that communication lines are open and equal for everyone. Balanced participation will then be ensured, and topics that are relevant and needed will then be broached on. Lastly, they will also aid the org in crafting SMART plans, those which that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Those are undoubtedly the ingredients to success.
